Sunnis: The insurgents "made fools of us"
said Mahmoud Ghasoub, a [Sunni] businessman in Baiji, a restive northern town. "They voted to disrupt the elections but failed. Now we have lost both tracks. We did not vote, nor did they disrupt the elections."
This is one of the reasons democracy works so well to unite a country: if you don't vote, you lose. If you do vote, you're been co-opted into the process. The only hope an anti-democratic insurgeny has is to prevent elections by force, and the Iraqi insurgents have failed to accomplish that, thanks to the bravery of the Iraqi people.
